Ponorogo, East Java ::: Possible pandemic flu domestic infection in students

Ponorogo, East Java – Ten students of Islamic School Gontor 1, in Desa Gontor, Kecamatan Mlarak, Kabupaten Ponorogo, East Java, suspected to contract novel A/H1N1 flu.

Head of Health Service Kabupaten Ponorogo, Andi Nurdiana, on Thursday (16/7), said that those students had been admitted and treated in dr Aisyah hospital Ponorogo according to swine flu treatment procedure.

“They were admitted to hospital on Wednesday (15/7) under weak condition and showing signs as cough, cold, high fever over 38℃ and breathing difficulty. They are quarantined, because we suspected swine flu infection, “said Andi.

Throat swab samples have been taken for further check in swine flu referral laboratory in Surabaya or Jakarta.

Andi also mentioned that those students had no history visiting foreign countries or other swine flu affected cities in Indonesia. But, for confirmation the Health Service would do further investigation in their school.

“There is possibility that they had visit from outsiders who came from affected areas. But for accuracy, Health Service of Ponorogo and medical team of East Java province will do further investigation,” he said.

The patients, Andi added, will be referred to dr Sudono Madiun hospital if necessary.

Despite of 10 students who are treated in dr Aisyah hospital, 90 students are also showing mild flu symptoms.

“They are showing common flu symptoms and treated at the school’s clinic. Hopefully they will recover soon,” said Andi.

Deli Serdang, North Sumatera ::: A rubber plant worker bird flu suspect

Deli Serdang, North Sumatera – A rubber processing plant worker is being treated in Lubuk Pakam hospital, Deli Serdang, North Sumatera, on Thursday (16/7). The patient, with initial S, is suggested to contract bird flu infection because he has fever up to 39.2℃.

S is currently treated at Class II, Mawar Unit, Lubuk Pakam hospital. Patient is a resident of Kampung Sekata, Jalan Perjuangan II, Dusun II, Desa Sigara-gara, Kecamatan Patumbak, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. He was referred to the hospital because of deteriorating condition. He developed high fever after number of chickens belonging to his neighbors suddenly died these past few days.

“According to Basori, patient’s relative, S was first rushed to Sembiring hospital in Jl Besar Patumbak, on Monday (14/7) evening. He was then referred to Adam Malik hospital in Medan for further examination.

“He received examination in isolation unit Adam Malik hospital, but then he was released in early Tuesday. He still had high fever at that moment,” said Basori.

Because of the high fever, patient was then rushed again to Sembiring hospital and finally transferred to Lubuk Pakam hospital.

Public relation of Adam Malik hospital, Syairi, confirmed that patient was examined for few hours in Adam Malik hospital. He was allowed to return home because the hospital couldn’t find any bird flu indications, even tough he had fever up to 39℃。

Until now, Health Service either Livestock Service of Deli Serdang haven’t done any investigation to the death of chickens around patient’s house.
