Sixteen Indonesian students, during a study trip to Singapore, were infected by novel H1N1 flu virus. Two other students are still suspected, and tests are still ongoing.

The confirmed sixteen students are being treated in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, meanwhile the two suspects are treated in Changi Hospital.

Patients are reported in good condition and recovering.

Adam Malik hospital treats five novel H1N1 flu suspects

Medan – Adam Malik hospital treated five novel H1N1 suspect patients. They were suggested to get infection during the flight returning to Medan after having vacation in Thailand and Malaysia last weekend. Of those five suspects, four of them are one family members, and the other one is their cousin.

Patients, EC (36), VC (20), CK (14), WKC (9) and CV (17), are residents of Japaris or Rahmadsyah Street, Medan Subdistrict. They were reported having swine flu-like symptoms and then being admitted to hospital. Previously, patients departed to Thailand on Wednesday (24/6) from Polonia airport Medan. They stayed in Thailand for 4 days and continued the journey to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for three days. It is assumed that they boarded on the same plane with other swine flu suspects. In particular because Malaysia Ministry of Health in Kuala Lumpur, in health check reports of those patients, requested further health examination to be done in Medan.

Victims arrived in Medan, Tuesday morning (30/6). In the afternoon, WKC’s body condition was deprived with temperature reached 38℃. The family went to Adam Malik hospital in Medan in the next day (1/07)

Head of Legal and Public Relation of Adam Malik Hospital, Atma Wijaya said that the patients had swine flu like symptoms and under intensive treatment. Confirmative examinations, added Atma, had been scheduled such as blood, urine, nasal and throat swab, and blood examination and also chest x-ray. Meanwhile blood samples had been sent to Jakarta and it might take 3 to 4 days to get the result. “We have requested Tamiflu stock to Health Service of North Sumatera. When the time is right we will give Tamiflu to the patients. Also, we have sent blood samples to Jakarta for further check.

Those five patients are placed in four separated rooms, while EC and her little child, WKC are placed in the same room.

Separately, Health Center of Polonia Airport Medan said that the five suspects had already received alert card from Kuala Lumpur. Those Medan residents arrived in Medan on Tuesday (30/6) 9,15 pm from Kuala Lumpur with aircraft name AirAsia 938. No novel H1N1 symptoms observed at that moment.

 

Adam Malik hospital treats bird flu suspected child from Aceh.

A child from Aceh Tamiang, RA (12), is suspected to contract bird flu H5N1 virus, and now being treated at Adam Malik hospital, Medan. Patient is a resident of Desa Alur Nana, Kecamatan Banda Mulia, Aceh Tamiang. Previously, several chickens belong to patients found suddenly died last Sunday (28/6).

Patients was reported to having fever up to 38℃ and then admitted to local hospital. The child then been referred to Medan on Tuesday evening (30/6). Team of Exceptional Cases Control of Adam Malik hospital has conducted series of examinations to RA, including blood, urine examinations and chest x-ray.

“We are still treating RA with liquid infusion, and also Tamiflu and Paracetamol administration,” said Atma Wijaya.

Jakarta ::: Sulianti Saroso hospital treats another novel H1N1 flu patient

Jakarta – A resident of Pondok Indah, South Jakarta is suspected to have novel H1N1 infection. The suspect, known as a female with initial AM, is now being treated at Sulianti Saroso hospital, North Jakarta.

AM is studying in Australia. She returned to Indonesia on 24 June through Soekarno-Hatta airport, and had passed the airport’s thermal scanner. She started to have fever on 25 June, and then was admitted to Pondok Indah hospital on June 26. Because the initial examination showed that she might have swine flu infection, AM was then rushed to Sulianti Saroso hospital, North Jakarta for intensive treatment.

Head of Public Health Subservice of South Jakarta, Togi Hasman said that patient had been tested positive swine flu infection and now under isolation.
