Yogyakarta ::: Two-year-old bird flu suspect girl tested negative

Yogyakarta – One of bird flu suspected toddlers from Yogyakarta, Salma (2), has been tested negative bird flu infection by Dr Sardjito Hospital, also Research and Development Laboratory, Ministry of Health. Previously, two toddlers from Dusun Cangkring Desa Sumber Agung, Kecamatan Jetis, Kabupaten Bantul, Yogyakarta were reported as bird flu suspected patients. They are Fatik Salahudin (2.5) and Salma (2).

Head of Public Relation and Protocol of Dr Sardjito Hospital, Heru Nugroho said that Salma, a 16-month-old girl (was previously said as 2-year-old in the last post), had developed bird flu-like clinical symptoms, such as cold, fever and breathing difficulty. Salma was admitted to Dr Sardjito Hospital on 25 June, and then being treated at Kartika isolation room because of bird flu suspicion.

Dr Sardjito Hospital laboratory has performed laboratory examination, it was resulted negative. For confirmation, the hospital then forwarded the samples Balitbangkes Jakarta.

“We received the result yesterday (Sunday), and it was negative,” said Trisno.

By this confirmation, Dr Sardjito Hospital has allowed patient to return home today.

Bantul, Yogyakarta ::: Two toddlers possibly infected by bird flu virus

Bantul, Yogyakarta – Two toddlers from Kabupaten Bantul are suspected to contract bird flu infection. The patients, Fatik Salahudin (2.5) and Salma (2) are residents of Dusun Cangkring, Desa Sumber Agung, Kecamatan Jetis, Kabupaten Bantul, Yogyakarta.

Currently, Fatik Salahudin is still under treatment at isolation unit of Dr Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, Salma is treated as outpatient with special attention from local public health center.

“We suspect bird flu infection to these toddlers, because dozens of chickens belong to neighbors, were suddenly dead last Monday. It takes only about 25 meters from the house of dead chickens’ owner to the suspects’ house. In general, sufferers showed weakened condition,” said Dusun Cangkring Chieftain, Sulistya SH, on Monday (29/6).

Sulis also mentioned that his party had dispatched about 30 bird flu control apprentices following this finding. Bird flu control apprentices, consist of young people from Kabupaten Bantul who have received special training, have conducted disinfection spraying around the suspected area.

Head of Public Health Center, Jetis 1, dr Bagus, said that he had only received the information about bird flu suspects. He also mentioned that beside suspects from Dusun Cangkring, there was also a suspect patient from Desa Sumberagung. “There is one more bird flu suspect, but we don’t know the exact name and address of the patient,” said Bagus.

Meanwhile, Animal Health Service of Jetis, Rosmita Ikaratri said that her team had investigated the location after they heard the report of suddenly died chickens. However, they could not collect any samples because people have disposed the carcasses.

Indonesia ::: Eight confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases

Jakarta – Number of A/H1N1 positive patients in Indonesia has reached 8 cases.

“There are 6 additional positive cases, three Australian and three Indonesian. All of them are introduced cases from foreign countries,” said Health Minister, Siti Fadilah Supari in her residenc, South Jakarta, on Sunday.

Three Australians, who are reported to have A/H1N1 infection, are currently in Bali. They are two boys, GC (12) and JA (10), and a girl, MT (14).

Patients are known boarded in the same aircraft with BM (22), and Englishman who was previously stated to be infected by A/H1N1 virus. BM is now still under treatment in Sanglah hospital, Bali.

Meanwhile, three Indonesian who are tested positive A/H1N1 flu infection are a female, AG (18) and her brother, TP (19), and another female, AM (22).

“AG and TP had travelled to Singapore. AM had just returned from Australia,”, said Siti.

The Indonesian patients are now treated at Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital, Jakarta.

Previoulsy, two patients have been tested positive A/H1N1 flu virus. They are a pilot resided in Jakarta, WA (37), and an English woman who lives in Australia, BM (22).

WA visited Australian on 14 June and continued to Hong Kong on 18 June. He developed fever on 19 June and then now is treated at Sulianti Saroso hospital.

BM is reported to have visited Bali on 19 June, and then came to Sanglah hospital on 20 June by carrying Health Alert Card. “She is now recovered, and has returned home, “said Siti.

Siti also added, all patients will only be released from hospital when they have recovered from the infection, or have been tested negative A/H1N1 flu virus. This policy is aimed to prevent rapid spreading of the disease as already happened in certain countries.

In order to enhance the preparedness to pandemic flu virus, government has increased the activities of all health facilities, such as hospitals, port health offices and laboratories. Also, citizen who are just returned from affected countries and develop flu symptoms, are required to have their selves checked.

Grobogan, Central Java ::: Bird flu outbreaks in chickens

Grobogan, Central Java – Bird flu cases re-emerged in Grobogan, Central Java. Until the end of June, there are 15 cases of bird flu infection have been reported. In total, 856 chickens are reported dead.

Latest cases were occurred in Kampung Kranggan, Kelurahan Kunden, Kecamatan Wirosari. Chicken were reported suddenly died around the area. Further test to the dropping samples by using rapid test, those chickens were tested bird flu infection, said the Head of Livestock and Fishery Service of Kabupaten Grobogan, Gembong Murdowo DVM.

Samples have been sent to Center of Veterinary Bureau, Wates, Yogyakarta for further confirmation if any genetic changes or subtype has been occurred.

Denpasar, Bali ::: Another A/H1N1 confirmed case

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) – Officials announce confirmed case from Bali. Agus Somia – head of A/H1N1 flu control team – said that an Australian, George Colmant (21) tested positive A/H1N1 flu infection. Until Friday (26/6) patient is still under treatment in Sanglah hospital, Denpasar, Bali.

Sanglah hospital previously treated another “suspect”, Bobie Masoner (22), who is also an Australian. Bobie has been discharge from the hospital as her condition had improved and considered had passed the infectious period.

Agus said, even though Bobie had returned home, she was suggested to stay at home and limit any contact with people for temporary.

Meanwhile, Sanglah hospital is currently treating three patients. George Colmant (12), who has been tested positive, and two suspect patients, a female, Tayla (14) and a boy, James (10). They both are Australians.

“They showed similar signs but their conditions are getting better,” said Agus.

James (10) is still reported to have cough and pain when eating, so that he needs intensive observation.

“Patients are treated according to the procedure. Including Tamiflu administration and specimen collections such as throat swab and other samples for further examination,” said Agus.

Jakarta ::: A family from Lampung suspected to have A/H1N1 flu infection

Jakarta – Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital (RSPI), North Jakarta, received new H1N1 flu suspect patients.

Main director of RSPI, Sardikin Giriputro, said that the suspects were one family from Lampung. They are Mrs E (48) and her two nephews, T (20) and A (18).

“They were visiting Singapore from 14 to 20 June to see the child of E. On June 23, they received news that the person (child of E) had been quarantined due to H1N1 infection. They developed fever after that, and came to RSPI,” explained Sardikin.

Furthermore, three more patients are being treated of suspected H1N1 flu virus. They are, an American woman, SL (68). She had fever and cough after visited Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The other is, a sailorman from Philippines, GE (33). He had fever and cold when he arrived in Indonesia after visited Phillipines and Hong Kong. The last is an Indonesian, WA (37), who has been tested positive H1N1 flu virus. WA is a pilot for Indonesia airlines.

Since the beginning of May 2009, RSPI has treated 19 patients who are suspected to contract H1N1 flu virus. “Currently, we’re treating 6 patients, while the other 13 have returned home after being tested negatve H1N1 flu infection”, described Sardikin.

Denpasar, Bali ::: Hospital receives three more H1N1 flu suspected patients

Denpasar, Bali – Number of A/H1N1 flu suspect patients in Bali is increasing. Previously, two foreign citizens were admitted and treated in Nusa Unit, Sanglah hospital. After that, other three patients were admitted to Sanglah hospital on Thursday (25/6).

“We got the information according to the private clinics which referred the patients to Sanglah hospital. But, the identities of patients, whether they are foreigners or locals, are still unknown,” said Head of Medical Service Sanglah hospital, I Gusti Lanang Suartana, Thursday (25/6).

The patients, he added, came with high fever above 37℃. Meanwhile, the hospital will examine the patients, and keep them in isolation unit Nusa Indah.

Furthermore, Sanglah hospital has given Tamiflu administration to family of Bobie, patient who was admitted last Sunday (21/6). Suartana mentioned, Tamiflu was given in low dose as preventive measure. The drug is given at 1×75 milligram for 10 days.

Meanwhile, throat swab samples laboratory result of George, who was admitted to Sanglah hospital, Tuesday (23/6), has not been issued. “His condition is improving,” said Suartana.

Purbalingga ::: Twenty villages infected by bird flu virus

Purbalingga – Bird flu again attacked Kabupaten Purbalingga. About 20 villages in the municipal have been infected by bird flu virus.

“Since January 1 until May 31, bird flu cases are reported in in 20 villages. Of those, birds from 13 villages tested positive bird flu infection, and others remained suspect,” said Head of Livestock and Fishery (Disnakkan) Service of Kabupaten Purbalingga, Hartono on Friday (25/6).

Within 5 months, he said, a total 1,024 birds have been culled. From all, 838 birds were tested positive and 186 were suspected bird flu infection.

“According to the procedure, either positive or suspect birds should be culled,” he said. Depopulation is done by burning and burying the dead birds.

Disnakkan has taken control measures by disinfection and giving vaccination for birds.

Indonesia ::: Four Indonesians in foregn countries tested positive pandemic flu infection

Jakarta – Four Indonesians in foreign countries have been tested positive A/H1N1 flu virus.

This is announced by Indonesia Health Minister, Siti Fadilah Supari, in a press conference at her office, Jl HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Wednesday (24/6).

“Four Indonesians in Singapore are positively infected by novel H1N1 virus”, said Siti.

Those positive cases, which are located in Australia and Singapore, have been treated by local hospitals. Health Minister also asked the patients to be remained before they have completely recovered.

“Do not discharge them before the test shows negative infection”, mentioned Siti.

Beside those four victims, two staffs of Ministry of Health are suspected to contract novel H1N1 virus, during their stay in China and Macau. Meanwhile, tests have not been conducted to those two suspects, added Siti.

Indonesia ::: Health Minister announces two positive pandemic flu cases

Jakarta – Two novel H1N1 suspect patients in Indonesia have been stated positive infection. This is announced by Health Minister, Siti Fadilah Supari in a press conference at Ministry of Health Office, HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Wednesday (24/6).

The two victims are a pilot, and an English expat who resides in Australia. The pilot, WA (37), is still under treatment at Sulianti Suroso hospital.

“WA visited Australia on June 14, and then travelled to Hong Kong on June 18. He was admitted to Sulianti Suroso hospital on June 19 because of fever,” explained Siti.

Currently, Siti added, the patient is still in good condition and under isolation until the infection diminishes. Meanwhile, BM (22) an expat who lives in Australia, after being treated at Sanglah hospital, Denpasar, Bali, has been tested positive novel H1N1 infection.

BM was reported to visit Bali on June 19. She developed fever and cough, and then went to hospital to get medical treatment on June 20. After further examination, she was referred to Sanglah hospital to be hospitalized.

“She is now in a good condition and still under isolation,” said Siti.

Moreover, Siti also mentioned that four Indonesians were tested positive novel H1N1 flu infection. Three of them are in Singapore and one in Beijing, China.
