Bali ::: Japanese tourist tested negative H1N1 flu

Denpasar, Bali – Bali is still safe from H1N1 flu or swine flu. A Japanese tourist, Kuri Akira (50), who was treated at Sanglah hospital Denpasar, tested negative H1N1 flu.

Physical examination showed a good condition, no fever, coughing, cold and sneezing. “He will return home today”, said Somia.

The Japanese tourist, Akira, found resnponsive to H1N1 flu infection. When he visited Bali with his wife, he had antipyretic paracetamol and tamiflu as required by his government. He arrived at Bali, Thursday (28/5).

“He took paracetamol at the airplane because of fever”, said Somia.

Patient had no contact history with H1N1 flu patient in his country. He was also corporate well during examination.

After the treatment at Sanglah hospital, now he will continue his vacation in Bali.

Bengkulu ::: Chickens bought at public market die of bird flu infection

Bengkulu – Seven chickens found suddenly died of bird flu infection. This has caused worry among people in Kelurahan Pasar Melintang. In particular, those dead chickens were purchased from public Sunday market in Bengkulu.

For anticipation measure, Livestock Service disinfected the area and gave extension to people. People were asked to report any findings of bird flu like symptoms.

Gayo Lues, Aceh ::: Oubreak in chickens

Gayo Lues, Aceh – Bird flu case found in Gampung Jawa and Kampung Kuta Lintang, Kecamatan Blengkejeren, Kabupaten Gayo Lues. Head of Agriculture Service, Amrulah Leman confirmed that some chickens had been tested positive bird flu infected.

According to Amrulah, this incidence was reported by the chicken owner’s neighbor, where then carried two dead chickens as evidence to Agriculture Service office.

Regarding to the finding, officials have been dispatched for further investigation. Agriculture Service also has temporarily banned any poultry supplies from outside to Blangkejeren.

Separately, Head of Livestock Division, Ibnu Hafid DVM said that they were working on the case.

Jakarta ::: RSPI treats two bird flu suspect patients

Jakarta – Two bird flu suspect patients are treated at Infectious Disease Hospital (RSPI) Sulianti Saroso. Patients were admitted to RSPI on 28 May 2009, 4.30 am by reference of Puri Indah hospital, Jakarta. Patient is Mrs F (27), resident of Th Kel. Kapuk West Jakarta.

 Puri Indah hospital received the patients at 11 am. Patients were reported having fever about 39℃which had lasted for a week, coughing, breathing difficulty with history of contact with death fowls. Based on the symptoms, patients were referred to RSPISS.

Another patient is a 3-year-old child, N, who was reported having fever up to 37.3℃, mild coughing and having contact history with fowls. The child was admitted to RSPISS on 29 May 2009, at 12 am, and now being treated at Mawar room RSPIS.

Wonogiri, Central Java ::: Bird flu situation up to May 2009

Wonogiri, Central Java – Bird flu has spread in 30 villages of 9 subdistricts in Kabupaten Wonogiri. Record of poultry deaths by May 2009 showed total 1,194 poultries died of avian influenza (AI).

This is mentioned by Head of Animal Health of Animal, Fishery and Marine Service (Wanperla), Kabupaten Wonogiri, Ismaryati Budiningsih DVM, Thursday (28/5), on advocation coordination meeting for avian influenza pandemic preparedness, held at the meeting hall of Bappeda Kabupaten Wonogiri.

The meeting is involving certain executive and legislative members, informal leaders, farmers, non-profit organization activists, public figures and mass media.

Number of chicken deaths due to AI in 2009 is increasing compare to 2008. During 2008, total poultry deaths in Kabupaten Wonogiri were 802 birds.

In 2008, AI distribution has covered 11 sub-districts in 28 villages. Fatal victims were two people, Setia Indratsih (5), resident of Dusun Cemangkahlor, Desa Sindukarto Eromoko Sub-Districts, and Saiful mahfud Hidayat (3), resident of Dusun Bero Desa Bero Manyaran Sub-districts.

A chicken farmer, Lulus Purwani stated, so far the government only put concern to large farm animals such as cattle and goats. “In fact, poultry farming, in particular, local chicken farming has considerable potency in helping public economic condition,” he said.

Denpasar, Bali – A Japanese tourist, Kuri Akira (50), suspected having H1N1 or swine flu infection. Suspect is now under intensive treatment at Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar.

Victim has been treated since early morning, 02.13 am, Thursday (28/5), Sanglah Hospital. Akira arrived at Bali, after travelling from Osaka, Japan by Japan Airlines. After arrival at Ngurah Rai airport, victim was rushed to Sanglah hospital.

“Victim is having cold, fever over 38℃, sore throat, indicating H1N1 flu infection”, said the Secretary of H1N1 Virus Control Team, dr Ken Wirasandi.

It’s also reported that victim flew to Bali while his son was ill (in Japan –adm). However, victim’s son illness has not been identified yet. During the flight from Osaka to Bali, victim was complaining sick to flight crews.

As he arrived at Ngurah Rai hospital, Port Health Office officers referred victim to Sanglah hospital. “According to the procedure, victim should receive treatment in hospital. This is one of protection effort mentioned in standard procedure”, said Wirasandi.

Medical team has als collected blood and throat swab samples for laboratory examination. “We’re still waiting for the result”, said Wirasandi.

Previously, a Dutch tourist, Michelle van Derson (32) was detected as H1N1 flu suspect in Bali. But, after treatment at Sanglah hospital, she was then tested negative H1N1 flu.

Magelang, East Java ::: Outbreak in chickens

Magelang, East Java – Dozens of chickens in Dusun Semalem, Desa Ngadirojo Kecamatan Secang and Tegalrandu Kecamatan Grabag, possibly infected by bird flu virus (avian influenza). Local people reported this incidence to Livestock and Fishery Service (Peterikan) and Health Service (Dinkes).

“According by rapid test, five from nine in Semalem, and 16 from 26 dead chickens from Tegalrandu, tested positive bird flu”, said Tri Agung SY, Headof Peterikan Magelang. For confirmation, Peterikan is still waiting for laboratory test done by Veterinary Center, Wates, Yogyakarta.

Regarding to this, Health Service activated two reporting centers in Semalem and Tegalrandu for a week ahead. Peterikan officials have also done disinfection for control measures. They also messaged people to keep chickens in cage, biosecurity and to maintain self hygiene.

Bengkulu ::: Bird flu suspected family identified having typhoid fever

Curup, Bengkulu – The mysterious illness observed in one family at Desa Mojorejo Kecamatan Selupu Rejang – Carlan (40); his wife Juarti( 35); and two children, Gusti (17) and Rena (12) – was known as typhoid fever.

Laboratory examination to the patient’ blood samples confirmed that they were negative bird flu infection, but identifid having typhoid fever, said dr Rheyco, a doctor of Curup regional hospital.

Bojonegoro, East Java ::: Outbreak in chickens. A child develops flu.

Bojonegoro, East Java – Until this evening, Monday (25/5), a child, Nabil (3) is developing sickness after two days having severe flu. This is worrying the child’s father, Nur Sahid (29), resident RT 12 RW II Desa Kandangan, Kecamatan Trucuk, Kabupaten Bojonegoro. In particular, number of chickens belong to Nur Sahid died and tested positive bird flu.

Nur Sahid felt relieved when officials from Livestock and Fishery Service (Disnak) Bojonegoro came to investigate and diminish the dead chickens.

“Until now, I’m afraid if bird flu in our chickens affect our children”, said Nur Sahid.

He also mentioned that his child had developed severe flu these two days, even though the doctor who examined his child said that it was only common flu.

Similar thing also confirmed by Kandangan chieftain, Tamban. He said that before the deaths of chickens belong to Nur Sahid, there were some deaths in chickens belong to other people. Mostly people dumped the chicken bodies to Begawan river.

“We have informed public to report any chicken deaths to the village authorities”, added Tamban.

Head of Disnak Region Bojonegoro, Tukiwan Yusa also confirmed that a chicken tested positive bird flu in Desa Kandangan.

Madiun, East Java ::: Outbreak in chickens

Madiun, East Java – At least 7 from 60 bangkok chickens belong to Hadisantoso (55), resident of kelurahan Banjarejo, Kecamatan Taman, Madiun, suddenly died. This incident has been reported to Agriculture Service (Disperta). Officials confirmed H5N1 to the dead chickens by rapid test.

“We burned all dead chickens”, said Head of Animal Health Disperta madiun, Riyanto, Monday (25/5).

Officials also disinfected chicken house. This disinfectant spraying will be continued in 2 days interval within a week.

Total suddenly dead chicken and confirmed H5N1 positive from February to 25 May 2009, Riyanto said, are more than 400 chickens. This amount has been found in 8 kelurahans: Nambangan Kidul, Sogaten, Kanigoro, Kelun and Banjarejo.

“After burning the dead chickens, we will continue to the sweeping of people who experience fever”, he added.
