Indosiar.com, Bandung — Following the examination result to dozen of bird flu infected dead chickens, Agriculture Service Office Bandung city culled chickens at Kampung Ciserep, Kecamatan Ujung Berung, Bandung. Chickens were euthanized before burned.

Chickens were positive H5N1 virus according to blood sample examination. Total 40 chickens and 4 birds were euthanized.

Total 94 chickens were culled in Kecamatan Ngraho, Baureno and Kecamatan Kota, Bojonegoro, East Java, due to contracting bird flu virus. Participatory Disease Searching Response (PDSR) officers reinforced to monitor the surrounding of Bengawan Solo river, longest river in Java island, since it becomes the spot to dispose dead chickens. According to Tukiwan Yusa, a member of PSDR, the Bengawan Solo stream overflowing during this rainy season. This might facilitate spreading of the disease to other area. Other H5N1 outbreak also founded in Desa Kauman, Mulyoagung, Kecamatan Kota, and several villages in Kecamatan Ngraho and Baureno.

Two patients recovering

After two days treatment at isolation unit RSUP Soeradji Tirtonagoro hospital, Roslik Wahyu Ardiata, 5 and Wisnu Candra,1 are recovering, according to Main director of RSUP Soeradji Tirtonagoro hospital Klaten Arif Faizal. According to examination, one of the patients is diagnosed to have upper respiratory inflammation.

Two Tangerang residents test negative for bird flu

Tangerang health agency on Thursday [26 Feb 2009] said 2 residents of
Kampung Geruduk, Tangerang, who were suspected of having contracted
the avian influenza virus had tested negative for the deadly disease.
“Both tests came back negative,” health agency official Yully Soenar
said, as quoted by ‘tempointeraktif.com‘ on Thursday [26 Feb 2009].

A 15-year-old boy and a 2-year-old child were being treated in the
bird flu isolation unit at Tangerang General Hospital for almost a
week. The pair was admitted to the unit when the hospital found they
had high fever and difficulty breathing, and local authorities
reported that there was dead poultry near their places of residence.

Yully said the symptoms found were indicative of acute respiratory
infection
disease and bronchitis.

Dozen of chickens died. Two toddlers in Klaten suspected.

Two children, Roslik Wahyu Adiarta (5) and his/her cousin Wisnu Candra (1), residents of Dusun Kemalang, Desa Dompol, Kecamatan Kemalang, treated at RSUP Dr Soeradji hospital on Wednesday (25/2) as bird flu suspect patients. These two children are developing fever, flu, and breathing difficulty after dozen of chickens belong to the family suddenly died.

Patients are relatives and their houses are close to each other. Roslik was admitted to hospital on Tuesday evening (24/2) 21.00 after few days developing fever. Patient was admitted to public health center before, but the fever and breathing problem did not recover.

Investigation showed history of dead fowls among the neighborhood, therefore victim was redirected to RSUP for bird flu observation where Roslik is placed at isolation unit 2nd floor. Wisnu founded to develop same symptom after that and admitted to RSUP on Wednesday (25/2).

Wisnu’s mother, Triyanti (28) said that her child had fever and breathing problem after sudden death of 15 chickens in their village observed. Those death chickens tested bird flu infection by Agricultural Service and Livestock Subdivision.

The two suspects are still under observation. Blood and swab sample also have been taken for further examination. Patients also examined every 8 hours at isolation unit. Current result showed no specific bird flu infection signs such as pneumonia, acute lung inflammation or leukocyte depression.

A doctor and 4 paramedics of Dr Sutomo hospital Surabaya are quarantined [revised]

This is related with the flash news from AI lab unair, posted 4th of February. A doctor (anesthesiologist) and 4 paramedics of Dr Sutomo hospital Surabaya were quarantined due to bird flu-like symptoms on early February. This is right after one Surabaya bird flu victim (St/18) was treated in that hospital. Further test revealed that the doctor and one of paramedic tested negative bird flu infection. [Up to last Sunday (22/2), three other paramedics are still in critical condition -- revised]

Revision: Dr Soetomo health workers reported sick on early February 2009, where bird flu suspect patients were hospitalized in the same hospital at the end of January. Ilness onset of each health worker is vary. They had developed bird flu-like symptoms. Two of them have been tested negative bird flu infection.

Two suspected human cases of avian influenza in Tangerang, one fatal

A child (aged 2 years 9 months) residing in the Serpong Subdistrict
of Tangerang City South [Banten province] is suspected to have died
as a result of avian influenza virus infection.

Another Tangerang resident (a 15-year-old boy) is suspected also to
have contracted avian influenza virus infection and is currently
being treated in hospital.

The child’s father stated that his son developed a high fever on 14
Feb 2009 and he immediately took the child to the local community
health centre and contacted his doctor. After 3 days the clinic
transferred the child to hospital on suspicion that he was suffering
from avian influenza virus infection. However despite intensive care
the condition of the child continued to deteriorate and he died on 17
Feb 2009. In a statement to correspondents the father admitted he did
not know the precise cause of his son’s death, and so far he had been
given no information by the hospital. The child has now been buried
in TPU Kramat Tajug.

An [agricultural service official] stated that he has received
information from Litbangkes (Laboratory Dep of Health) that the child
had tested positive for avian H5N1 influenza virus infection. [This
official] had been responsible for collecting samples from poultry in
the area, but had not yet received results of the tests.

Banten::: Bird flu suspected 2-year-old boy

Metrotvnews.com, Tangerang: A boy resident of Gruduk Mekar Jaya, Sepatan, Tangerang Banten suspected to be infected by bird flu virus. It has been over a week that Muhammad Heru (2) is developing high fever, coughing and breathing difficulty. Heru, son of Rusdi and Siti Isnia, is now treated at Tangerang regional hospital after received treatment at Sepatan public health center before. His condition hasn’t showed any improvement. According to victim’s neighbor, dead chickens were founded around Heru’s house lately. People worried if bird flu H5N1 virus has spread in their neighborhood.

Two Buleleng residents not infected with bird flu

Sat, 02/21/2009 3:42 PM – BALI, BULELENG: Buleleng Health Agency head I Made Pustaka said Thursday his office was upbeat that two residents, previously suspected of having contracted the bird flu virus, were not infected, despite reports of the sudden deaths of dozens of chickens in the area.

“We have treated the two and are now monitoring their health condition,” he said.

“It was a common fever, and not caused by the bird flu virus.”

The two residents of Sumberkelampok village in Gerokgak district suffered from high fever after 67 chickens owned by 15 families died suddenly on Wednesday. The residents then reported the case to health authorities.

The Buleleng Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Agency has culled remaining chickens in the vicinity as a preventive measure.

Pustaka said he could understand residents’ concern over the case, adding his agency was cooperating with the agriculture agency to monitor Sumberkelampok village.

Banyuputih::: People dump dead chickens to river; Yogyakarta::: Now infected

18 February 2009. Jawa Pos. Bird flu attacks Banyuputih.Dead chickens dumped to the river.

Hundreds of chicken suddenly died at Desa Sumberwaru, Kecamatan Banyuputih. At least 200 chickens killed these last few days. Rapid test done by Livestock Service Situbondo resulted positive bird flu (Avian Influenza) virus infection. Henceforth, Livestock Service officials announced stage one bird flu alert status to this area. People mostly disposed dead chickens to the river, where it utilized for public daily activities. This phenomenon may facilitate virus spreading to human community.

In Yogyakarta, an area in Jawa island which formerly known as bird flu free area has bird flu outbreak detected recently. Hundred of dead chickens confirmed positive bird flu infection was founded in Bantul and Sleman. A chicken farmer was reported as bird flu suspect since he developed high fever after his chickens founded killed by bird flu virus. After further examination by Dr Sardjito hospital and Jakarta laboratories, patient was confirmed negative bird flu virus and allowed to return home.

Bekasi bird flu suspects increased

Seputar Indonesia, 16 February 2009.

Bekasi – Bird flu suspect victims of Kampung Srengseng RT 13/6, Desa Sukamulya, Kecamatan Sukatani, Kabupaten Bekasi increased. Head of Health Service for Disease Control and Environment Health of Kabupaten Bekasi, Rudi Ruhdiat said that less than 10 year-old boy was suspected to contract bird flu virus.

“If his condition is not recovered within two days, we will direct him to Sulianti Surosos hospital”, said Rudi. Head of Health Service Kabupaten Bekasi, Sri Utami is still contacting Helth Ministry’s laboratorium for blood test result of these 7 suspects. “For valid result we should wait for more then 2 weeks”, she said.
