RIAU:::Bird flu outbreak on three villages

Regional health service watches three villages in Indragilir Hulu subdistrict  since hundreds of birds tested positive avian influenza H5N1 virus (Indragilir Hulu is one subdisrict in Riau province, Sumatera Island. adm). The outbreak villages are Serumpun Jaya, Bersama Jaya and Pecan Jaya. Hundreds of chickens found dead recently on those area. Up to now, no human infection signs are observed based on medical examination to over than 300 villagers. Regional health service will continue monitoring until 14 days after.

New bird flu suspect from Demak

December 23, 2008

DEMAK – Bird flu suspect patient from Kedunguter village, Karangtengah subdistrict, Demak increased. As Tur, 12, is still under treatment at RSUP dr Kariadi hospital, Semarang, another patient, Jas, 28, has been submitted to RSUP Kariadi hospital after treated at RSD Sunan Kalijaga regional hospital.

According to Regional Health Service on-duty officer dr Singgih Setyono MMR, Jas is suspected to have bird flu infection after the epidemiologic investigation by team of Health Service.

Tangerang government declares 10 bird flu epidemic subdistricts

Government of Tangerang municipality, Banten province, declared 10 subdistricts in Tangerang as avian influenza (bird flu) epidemic area.

“The transmissibility is relatively high on those areas”, said the head of Regional Health Service Tangerang Municipality, Hani Heryanto.

Ten bird flu epidemic subdistricts from total 36 subdistricts in Tangerang are Pondok Aren, Serpong, North Serpong, Cisauk, Panongan, Curug, Legok, Pasar Kemis, Gunung Kaler and Sepatan. “Bird flu transmission at those areas occurred in human and also birds”, as he added.

First human case in Tangerang was occurred on 2005, since then 18 human cases have been recorded where 16 of them are fatal. Meanwhile, total bird flu cases in birds recorded are 518 cases, where 98 cases reported on Tangerang city and 70 cases on Tangerang municipality. Total human cases within Banten province since 2005 to 2008 are 28 cases where 26 of them are fatal.

Demak, Central Java:::Bird flu suspect

Bird flu suspected at Demak.

A child, Tur, 12, resident of Kedunguter village, Subdistrict Karangtengah, Demak, submitted to regional hospital Sunan Kalijaga Demak due to bird flu infection symptoms such as high fever with breathing difficulty. At 14.00, patient was sent to Kariadi hospital Semarang after having leukocyte depression.

Two days before submitted to Sunan Kalijaga hospital, patient had contact with dead bird and after that developed fever and sore throat. Patient was submitted to public helth center nearby the area and had Tamiflu administration. Because the condition was worsen, patient then submitted to Sunan Kalijaga hospital before directed to Kariadi hospital.

Meanwhile, the head of regional animal health division of Demak, Sudaryanti, DVM, stated that numbers of chickens were died at that area, and laboratory examination showed positive bird flu result.

Sari Asih Hospital, Tangerang:::”Bird flu virus didn’t kill Sutinah”

Sari Asih hospital denies bird flu infection case

Tangerang – Sari Asih hospital, Ciledug, Tangerang city denies Sutinah, 24, who died after 6 hours treatment at that hospital, infected by bird flu virus.

“According to the medical check, Sutinah died because of ARDS or severe breathing disturbance”, said Ni’matullah, Sari Asih hospital director. For confirmation, Sari Asih hospital will issue medical statement to Health Service Office of Tangerang City, mentioning that Sutinah does not have bird flu infection.

Two bird flu suspect cases confirmed negative

Jakarta – Two bird flu suspects patient, DH (32) from Garut, and Yo (8 month) from Lampung confirmed negative bird flu according to Research and Development Laboratory of Health Ministry Indonesia.

Tangerang bird flu suspect patient died

Tuesday, 16 December 2008.

Bird flu suspect patient, Sutinah (24) died yesterday 07.00 am at Sari Asih hospital, Ciledug, Tangerang.

According to Sumyati, victim’s aunt, Sutinah has been hospitalized at Sari Asih hospital 3 days ago, due to breathing problem and coughing. (other source, Metrotv news, said victim had high fever. -adm-)

Sutinah was working as housemaid at Jalan Kutilang Blok M III, Bintaro Jaya,Kecamatan Pondok Aren,Kabupaten Tangerang.

Tangerang, located in Banten province, western part of Java island, has recorded the highest number of human H5N1 cases in Indonesia. Data of Tangerang city bird flu cases from June 2005 until 16 October 2008 showed 9 bird flu cases where 8 of them were fatal. Meanwhile, in Tangerang municipal, from total 17 cases, 15 of them were fatal.

Indonesia: Bird flu human counts are now 113 cases.

Wednesday, 10 December 2008 | 13:06 WIB WHO announced that 2-year-old baby from East Jakarta who died last month 29 November 2008 caused by bird flu infection has added death toll in Indonesia to 113 cases or a half of total number world cases. WHO correspondent in Jakarta stated that source of infection is contact with birds at bird market. There is no statement from Indonesia national government about this case.

About November bird flu cases in Indonesia

According to the ProMed mail 10 December 2008, about WHO Indonesia update:

“The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced 2 new confirmed cases of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus. A 9 year old girl from Riau Province developed symptoms on 7 Nov 2008 and was hospitalized on 12 Nov 2008. She recovered and was discharged from hospital on 27 Nov 2008. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the H5N1 avian influenza virus. Investigations into the source of her infection indicate poultry deaths at her home on 2 Nov 2008.

Lampung::: Hundreds of chickens suddenly died

Another case of dead chickens from Lampung. This is occured at Kotaagung subdistrict.

Former case occured at Jatiagung subdistrict as reported on the previous post. (adm)

 

Hundreds of chicken suddenly died at RT 14, Kelurahan Kuripan, Kecamatan Kotaagung, Lampung.

The cause of death hasn’t confirmed yet, but the Animal Health and Livestock Service,Tanggamus, Lampung, reinforces avian influenza team to the field for monitoring.

“Sudden death (in chickens, adm) can be caused by lot of factors, so our team, Wahyu Sukardi, DVM, with volunteers: Zulyadi and Syafe’i investigate the case directly to the location”, as Shofwan, head of  Animal Health and Livestock Service,Tanggamus, Lampung, stated.
