Bird flu outbreak reccurent in Bangkalan District, Madura. Within March to August 2008 bird flu outbreaks have been occured at 7 subdistrics of Bangkalan, i.e Bangkalan, Burneh, Kamal, Socah, Tanah Merah, Arosbaya, dan Geger. This disease has killed 365 backyard chickens which have been confirmed positive to be infected by avian influenza virus through rapid antigen test.

According to Bangkalan region Livestock and Animal Health Local Center, within these 5 months there were 6 birdflu outbreaks had emerged. The highest rate was reported in subdistrict Burneh with 5 incidents. Followed by Bangkalan subdistrict with 4 incidents, Kamal and Tanah Merah with 2 incidents for each. Socal, Kamal and Geger with 1 incident for each sub district. At 2007, 5 subdistricts were suffered with bird flu outbreaks , and this year’s outbreak has been expanded to 7 subdistricts.

“It means its spreading (bird flu virus) has reached Tanah Merah and Arosbaya”, explained the Chief of Animal Health Division, Syahrul Mukkarrom, DVM.
