Medan, North Sumatera ::: Bird flu suspect patient, RA (13), tested negative

Medan, North Sumatera – Public Relation and Legal Section of Adam Malik hospital, Atma Widjaya, announced that test result of RA (13), a bird flu suspect patient from Telaga Alur Nanu, Aceh Tamiang, had been issued.

According to Atma, patient has been stated negative infection. This information is derived Ministry of Health in Jakarta, through a short text message.

Following to this result, hospital will release the patient this afternoon.

Lampung ::: Abdul Muluk hospital receives another bird flu suspect patient

Lampung – Abdoel Moeloek hospital (RSUAM) received another bird flu suspect. The 1.4-year-old patient, IF, is a resident of Kecamatan Punduh Pidada, Kabupaten Pesawaran.

Vice Director of RSUAM, dr Pad Dilangga, mentioned that several chickens found died around patient’s house. IF was admitted to RSUAM because he developed fever and breathing difficulty. Hospital began to treat him as bird flu suspect patient after they found out about the history of dead chickens around victim’s house. IF is currently treated at isolation unit for bird flu patient in RSUAM, and receiving Tamiflu administration.

“His condition is improving, and we have sent the blood and saliva samples to Research and Development Laboratory, Ministry of Health in Jakarta”, said Pad Dilangga.

IF is the second bird flu suspect patients, who are being treated at RSUAM, within these last 10 days. Previously, RSUAM has treated M (14), resident of Kecamatan Jatiagung, South Lampung.

Contrary to IF, M was reported to have cooked and consumed sudden dead chickens which were found nearby his house.

Meanwhile, the hospital is still waiting for the test result, which will be issued on Friday (10/7).

The Health Ministry said Thursday that the number of H1N1 flu cases had almost doubled as the virus had spread beyond the northern part of Sumatra to areas in Kalimantan.
 
The ministry confirmed that 24 more people were suspected of having contracted the H1N1 flu, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 52.
 
Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said that 14 of the new suspects had traveled aboard prior to the infection. Three are foreigners, while the rest are Indonesians.

South Lampung ::: Bird flu kills over 500 chickens

South Lampung – Hundreds of chickens belong to people in Desa Tetaan, Kecamatan Bakauheni, Kabupaten South Lampung, were suddenly dead of bird flu virus.

According the Head of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health (Keswan Kesmavet), Livestock Service, South Lampung, Agung Kusmartuti on Thursday (9/7), they have dispatched their bird flu watcher team to the location.

“Those birds positively tested bird flu infection by rapid test,” said Agung.

Regarding to this incidents, Livestock Service officers have disinfected numbers of birds flocks to anticipate any further spreading.

Number of dead birds within these three days has reached more than 500 birds, including chickens and ducks.

A bird owner confessed that he experienced about 50 bird’s deaths within last three days. Those birds observed apparently healthy before suddenly died in only few days.

Desa Tetaan’s chieftain, Almualimin mentioned that the Livestock Service had done disinfection to the location about three months ago. Currently, people have no more disinfectant stocks.

Almualimin have instructed people not to slaughter the sick chickens to avoid any transmission to human.

Sukabumi, West Java ::: Eight more bird flu suspects under observation

Sukabumi, West Java – Gumilar (7), resident of Kp. Bungur Pandak RT 03/05 Desa Bojong Kembar, Kecamatan Cikembar, is being treated in Sekarwangi Cibadak regional hospital as bird flu suspect patient. Victim showed body temperature up to 37℃and had severe flu in only 24 hours.

“He’s still suspected to contract bird flu infection. We’re worrying his clinical condition, now his temperature has reached 37℃ and the signs are worsened, “ said the Head of Infectious Disease Eradication and Environmental Health (P2MPL), Health Service of Sukabumi, Dadang Sucipta. Meanwhile the hospital is still observing victim’s condition and waiting for the laboratory test result.

Dadang also mentioned that dozens of chickens found suddenly dead around victim’s neighborhood prior to the victim’s illness.

“Dead chickens found within 200 meters radius from victim’s house,” he added.

Despite of Gumilar’s case, Dadang and his team has observed other eight locals who developed the similar signs. They are Ma Anah (90), Een (40), Ma Ihat (60), Ujang Sadeli (15), Ade (40), Ningsih (50) and Resti (18). They are having severe flu and fever after the death of the chickens.

Moreover, the bird flu indication was started after a wedding party held by Apung (41), resident of Kp. Bungur, for his child. “It is suggested that the chickens cooked for the party were sudden dead chickens. At that moment, dozens of chickens died nearby Apung’s house, “said Dadang.

Those bird flu suspects are residents of Kp. Pasir Kuray RT 03/RW03 Ds Mekarsari, Kec. Ciemas. For anticipation, Health Service has observed people within the area and established a 24-hours special health service unit.

Tangerang, Banten ::: The child of city officer possibly dies of bird flu

Tangerang, Banten – A bird flu suspect patient died after being treated for about 1.5 hours in avian influenza or bird flu unit of Tangerang central hospital. For anticipation, the hospital has instructed the use of mask inside hospital area.

Victim, with initial PR, 22-year-old, is a student of a private university and known also as the child of Tangerang city government officer.

Victim is a resident of Jalan Danau Timur, Modern Land, Tangerang, which known as an elite housing area.  From a source who is the colleague of victim’s parents and requested anonymity, victim was admitted to Mayapada Modern Land hospital because of high fever.

Victim had been treated since Friday (3/7), but the condition was worsened. Hospital began to suspect bird flu infection on Wednesday (7/7) around 2 pm.  After that, victim was referred to Tangerang central hospital and treated under supervision of a lung specialist, dr Tintin.

Head of Health Service, Tangerang City, dr Lili Indrawati confirmed about the existence of bird flu suspect patient treated in Tangerang hospital.

Subsequent to the case, the Mayor of Tangerang City, Wahidin Halim instructed Health Service and Agriculture Service officials to disinfect the location.

Padang, West Sumatera ::: Bird flu suspect nurse case’s update

Padang, West Sumatera – Bird flu suspect in M Djamil hospital is recovering. “The body temperature has recovered to 36℃, and the breathing is getting better. But we will continue the observation until test result issued by Ministry of Health laboratory,” said General Director of M Djamil hospital, Aguswan.

M is treated in isolation unit because developed fever after treating a deceased bird flu suspect patient, RK. M is one of the paramedics in bird flu isolation unit Iran C Internal Medicine of M Djamil hospital.

Several examinations including blood and throat sample collections have been done. Samples have been sent to Ministry of Health laboratory for further examination.

Meanwhile, hospital is still treating the patient until lab confirmation released.

Sukabumi, West Java – A 7-year-old boy, Gumilar, resident of Kampung Bungur Pandak, Desa Bojong Kembar, Kecamatan Cikembar, rushed to Sekarwangi Cibadak hospital on Tuesday (7/7) regarding to bird flu infection suspicion.

“Patient is still categorized as bird flu suspect, but this is frightening. Gumilar rushed to hospital to anticipate any possibility,” said Head of Infectious Disease Eradication and Environmental Health Division (P2MPL) of Sukabumi Health Service, Dadang Sucipta.

Indonesia ::: Total A/H1N1 2009 now 28 cases

Jakarta – Eight more patients in Indonesia have been confirmed H1N1 2009 flu infection. They are now being treated at Sanglah hospital in Denpasar, Sulianti Saroso hospital in Jakarta and Adam Malik hospital in Medan.

This confirmation is according to the data of General Directorate of Disease Control and Environmental Health (P2PL) and Research and Development Bureau, Ministry of Health (Depkes).

Newly confirmed patients are: AM (24), male, hospitalized in Sanglah; BH (25) and IA (19), both are males, hospitalized in Sulianti Saroso; and three male patients in Adam Malik hospitals, VI (20), WI (9) and CA (27).

Two other patients are also under treatment, but there is no information about the location of the hospital. Both patients are XL (40), male, known has history visiting Thailand and Malaysia; and a female, LT (age is unknown), with history of visiting Singapore.

“Indonesia has recorded 28 positive cases of H1N1 2009. Of 28 positive cases, 5 of them were previously treated at Sanglah hospital. They have recovered and returned home,” said Head of Public Communication Center of Ministry of Health, Lily S. Sulistyowati in a  press release yoday.

Padang, West Sumatera ::: A 7.5-year-old bird flu suspect dies. Nurse shows symptoms.

Padang, West Sumatera – A bird flu (H5N1) suspect patient from Sungaibuluh, Kabupaten Dharmasraya, passed away on Saturday (4/7). Victim, with initial RK, 7.5-year-old, died after being treated for five hours in isolation unit, Irna C Internal Medicine, M Djamil Hospital, Padang, Saturday (4/;7).

On the following day after RK’s burial, a nurse who was taking care of RK during isolation, developed bird flu-like symptoms. The nurse, with initial M, is now under treatment in isolation unit Irna C Internal Medicine, M Djamil Hospital

“RK arrived in critical condition at the time of admission to M Djamil hospital, last Saturday (6/7). Patient passed away within 5 hours after that, it was around 10 pm,” said the Director of M Djamil hospital, Padang Aguswan. At the time of admission, victim was unconscious, and assisted by oxygen supply. Until now, M Djamil hospital still cannot confirm whether victim died of bird flu virus or not.

Previously, RK had been treated at Adnaan WD hospital, in Payakumbuh, where at that time victim was having vacation in his/her grandmother’s house. After that, victim was transferred to Yos Sudarso hospital, in Padang. “Chest x-ray revealed bird flu signs. At that moment, patient had body temperature up to 37.5℃ accompanied with breathing difficulty”, said Aguswan.

“We are still waiting for throat swab and blood samples test result from Ministry of Health Laboratory,” said Aguswan.

Since 2006, M Djamil hospital has been treating 9 bird flu suspects from several areas in West Sumatera, including Padangpariaman, Limapuluh Kota, Agam dan Dharmasraya. One fatality was recorded in 2007.
